Since I broke my own no-politics-on-the-blog rule yesterday and since this has been a pretty damned dark week for the nation, I thought we could all use a good laugh today.
Larry Correia’s The Adventures of Tom Strange, Interdimentional Insurance Agent is currently available through June 21st as a free audiobook from Audible.
I just listened to it last weekend on the way to yet another Annual Training exercise and it was a real mood lifter as spend the whole ride laughing like a hyena on nitrous oxide instead of brooding about spending the next two weeks in daily staff meetings. Fittingly the story opens with a staff meeting in the (alternate-Earth) Presidential War Room that is both hysterical and sadly realistic, before wandering across the multiverse to blow up aliens and arbitrate claims.
Adam Baldwin narrates and does a fabulous job bringing the characters and absurdity to life.
Will this appeal to you? Well the 13 year-old-boy who lives in my middle-aged female brain and does 90% of the laughing for me thought it was the funniest thing he’d heard all year. So it isn’t the most sophisticated humor out there (unsurprising as the original novella was published as a series of tongue-in-cheek, self-referential blog posts that weren’t really intended for commercial publication), but it’s funny as hell, especially for those of us waiting for this version of Earth to get its own Libertarian Space Cowboy Revolution™. On the other hand, if you have to go hide in your safe space when someone makes jokes about Gender Studies majors or refers to Joe Biden as a drunken circus clown, you may want to move along to something else. Either way, it’s currently free, and available here.
Enjoy (it’s about 2 hours long) and then let me know what you think in the comments.
